The next Generation Zero update is here, and we’re excited to finally show you what we’ve been working on for the past few months! The Dark Skies update will not only bring you a brand new Soviet machine, the Firebird, but also a brand new way to travel – the Tuned Moped. And if the skies above are too dark for you, now is the time to bring some color to your Östertörn fighter with the new free weapon skins. More on that a bit below, but first.

Reinforcements have arrived; say “Hej” to Generation Zero’s first armed flying enemy! Equipped with everything from autocannons and howitzers to Teslacoil spikes and Trip Bombs, it will wreak havoc from the air, darkening the skies above Östertörn.

This new machine will surely bring the Resistance to its knees. Do you have what it takes to defend not only Östertörn but also the skies above? You’ll find this new flying threat in northern Östertörn, where it roams the skies. If you kill one of them, don’t forget to pick it up, it might contain something special!

Our lead artist, Rich, comments, “For our first flying machine, we wanted to set up an all-seeing terror. The influence behind it was those videos of police helicopters that you see at night with a big projector. Able to find the player in any density while running or fighting.

We didn’t explore any machines that move vertically (well, not intentionally) and of course that came with a lot of challenges to overcome and questions to answer. But not losing sight of what the Firebird is made the first flying machine a terror in the skies. Bring all the bullets and rockets you can carry, this machine is a monster!”

With a new machine reigning terror from above, we need a new way to escape its rapid ground fire. Being a long sought after feature by the GZ community, we are finally introducing a new means of transportation to Östertörn; the moped listening!

“We wanted to introduce a way for players to travel around our huge game world in a new and exciting way. The moped will allow the player to get from A to B faster than before. says Robert, one of team game designers.

All is not black. The Dark Skies update brings a new flavor to the game with brand new Spoils of War. Show the world how tough you are and who you’ve beaten with five new free weapon skins. These colorful creations can drop from beaten rivals and attach to some of your favorite weapons with a new attachment slot. Go get them all today!

“Dark Skies sees the introduction of the ability to further customize your weapons by applying cosmetic skins to them. Round one has a well-recognized mix of camouflage for the more reclusive as well as a few weapons getting The Resistance treatment. Keep an eye out for them when you loot machines and what weapons they apply to.

We plan to add more skins to your favorite guns in the future as well as expand your collection. Rich, adds our main artist.

Ready for a fresh start? Included in this comprehensive update is a new way to replay the game for all of you who have already fought your way through the threats of Östertörn and FNIX.

Here’s Björn, Lead Game Designer, giving us a preview of the new game’s redesign:

This new feature aims to fulfill two long-standing wishes of the community:

  • Provide players with a way to replay the game with a new character in a new world where all missions and world progression have been reset (without having to delete all existing characters)
  • Provide players with a way to replay the game with an old character in a new world (“New Game+”)

With the old system, the game supported 1 world and up to 4 characters. This has now changed so that you can have a total of 4 worlds and 4 characters. These worlds and characters can be mixed and matched as desired to achieve the goals described above while retaining support for the old system.

  • Examples of what you can do now:
  • New fresh game = new character + new world
  • New Game + = Existing Character + New World
  • Original approach = new character + existing world
  • Continue Game = Existing Character + Existing World

Tuned Moped not fast enough for you? Then we’ve got something in store for you; the Motorcycle Pack DLC! Included in this fast pack you will find three unique motorcycles. Lodjuret, Väktare and Motstånd. All with their own characteristics to allow you to cross even the most difficult terrain. Grab them today in your platform store!

Östertörn gets even spookier when Halloween arrives in the Swedish archipelago!

Starting today and running through November 2, haunted machines will drop pieces of all four limited vanity sets, the Nightmare, Slasher, Vampire, and Arctic.

So how exactly will it work? For each machine you dismantle, there will be a change for the clothing items to drop. All four sets contain their own variations for each slot of your character. Be on the lookout for Runners, Hunters, Reapers, and Tanks so you can grab these items before the event ends!

A reminder for those playing Generation Zero offline: this event requires you to be online for our servers to activate the event in-game.

Alongside these spooky shenanigans, we’ll be running a “Scariest Outfit” contest, so be sure to check our social media channels as well as the Generation Zero forum for more on that!
