Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami presented certificates to nine farmers on Saturday, marking the launch of the 12 110 crores Harvest loan exemption program for over 16 lakh ryots in the state.

The certificates state that the loans obtained from cooperative banks have been deferred and subject to January 31, 2021.

A government statement in Chennai said Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, Agriculture Minister KP Anbalagan and senior government officials led by Chief Secretary Rajeev Ranjan were involved in the event at the State Secretariat. .

On February 5, Palaniswami announced a waiver of approximately 12,110.74 crore in crop loans used by 16,437,347 cooperative bank farmers.

In addition to heavy rains out of season, the movement considered damage to crops amid back to back cyclones “Nivar” and “Burevi” Last year.

The waiver will pave the way for farmers, Palaniswami said, to resume farming without any inconvenience.

Following the declaration, on February 8, government instructions were issued, paving the way for the device to be put in place.
